aBOUT JOHN

John is a Cork based artist that has always had a flare for drawing and animation. Since childhood John has used drawing as a way to navigate some of his own personal challenges. Being both deaf and autistic John has used his art as an outlet and a way to connect with people and the subject matter. He’s used his autism in a positive way to harness some of the characteristics such as the attention detail and ability to focus on one picture for prolonged periods of time. He also uses his deafness to tune out the noise around him (usually his family members talking)

Passionate about pencil drawing, Johns aim is to bring the subject to life and in his own words “I love the shades with black and white”

John has been on a journey with his art over the years, at a young age he started drawing as a hobby, he spent hours and hours watching animation and trying to replicate the characters. As he grew into his twenties, he focused less on drawing and more on gaming. In 2020 when lock down hit John sharpened the pencils and his skills. He rekindled his love of drawing and took on some work for the local church. This fueled his fire in terms of his love of drawing but also let him explore religion through art and ignited a second passion for John. In 2024 he started drawing a picture of Rory Gallagher and while drawing started exploring his music and became a fan. John truly tries to understand his subject matter and immerses himself in the music, the art, the religion and the joy it brings others.

When asked what he loves about drawing John said “I like drawing pictures for people and make them happy” that sums Johns love of his craft and his motivation up in one sentence. He does it for the joy.

After a lot of convincing, John has agreed to allow his talent be shared with others and offer the chance to purchase prints and order commissions.
